Hazel Blears:

Hello. I'm Hazel Blears. I'm here at Number 10 in a brilliant Eid reception with the Prime Minister. We've got people from Muslim communities from right across Britain and particularly we've got a fantastic group of Muslim women who are part of our National Advisory Group and who are doing great things in their families and in their communities.

Reedah El-Saie:

Hi. My name is Reedah El-Saie. I'm the London regional rep for the National Muslim Women's Advisory Group. The work that we're doing here is really quite exciting because we're not only tackling the agenda of violent extremism but I think the London body and indeed the rest of the Group really wants to set a more positive, constructive agenda to heal not only the Muslim community but the wider host communities as well.

Hazel Blears:

The whole atmosphere here today is of people making a tremendous contribution, really about the shared values that we have in Britain and also a sense of excitement for the future, I think, that people want t work with us to build those shared values that are so important to our society and also to make sure that every single person, particularly young people, have the chance to get on and do well. So it's a really positive event, hugely important to Muslim communities right across Britain and I think a real sense of the Prime Minister's personal commitment and his real passion for making sure that the whole of Britain comes together.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown:

It's something that I've wanted to do for some time: to invite representatives here today to say how much I value the contribution you make to British society. The important thing for our country going forward is that every single citizen feels that they have a part to play. And the important contribution that you make is in strong communities that you represent playing a major part in all the diverse activities of our country. Our society is stronger because of everything that you do and you know that the bonds that we have that bind us together are shared values about the importance of a world which is not divided but a world that is united. And a world where every person feels that they can play their part.
