Karen Pollock, Chief Executive, Holocaust Educational Trust:
We came to 10 Downing Street today with Zigi Shipper, a Holocaust survivor to present the Book of Commitment for Holocaust Memorial Day to the Prime Minister.
The Book of Commitment is a way for people to pledge their support for the day and really the support and commitment to say 'never again'. The Holocaust Educational Trust is privileged enough to get support from the government for our Lessons From Auschwitz project where we take young people to visit Auschwitz and see the horror of the Holocaust for themselves. Zigi Shipper is one of the survivors who speaks to the students before they go and tells his story.
Zigi Shipper, Holocaust Survivor:
People shouldn't forget. People should remember what happened between 1939 and 1945 to the European Jewry and other people, not only the Jews. It's the Poles and the Gypsies and the homosexuals that were killed. To me, personally, to come to number 10 Downing Street and to meet the Prime Minister, it's one of the greatest honours I could get.
